Jean Abrie has lived in Southern Africa all of his life. The Southern African wilderness areas on his doorstep provide him with endless inspiration and material to paint and photograph. He spent much of his childhood in Zimbabwe where his great love for wildlife developed. He returned to South Africa in later years where he completed his graduate studies.
He relies on his first hand observations and experiences on trips throughout Africa with his friends, fellow artists and clients who sometimes accompany him on these trips. He hopes to create awareness of the importance of conservation efforts in Africa with his work, by portraying the many exciting and unexpected changes and moods on the continent on large canvasses.
Photo realism is his preferred style and he has developed a sophisticated technical ability by paying great attention to detail. His great love for the open spaces, the people, animals and the huge variety of birdlife on the African continent is evident in his work and is gained through extensive research and study of the subjects he paints.
Collectors range from large multinational companies in the US, UK, Europe and South Africa, to private collectors from all over the world. He has participated with great success in the Pacific Rim Wildlife show, SCI conventions and the Southeastern Wildlife Expo. His work was also exhibited in private shows and galleries in New York, London, Charleston, Reno, Ft Lauderdale, Naples and Orlando.
